In his rather traditional approach to the universe and its preference for intrigue, the psychology of the characters or the plot twists, this book is not without recall the style of RR Martin with "Game of Thrones"
I started the series with a little apprehension because I prefer rather epic fantasy book, great show and with a new and original world (see: "The Wheel of Time" by Robert Jordan, for example)
But I liked this book .After the first 50 pages fairly standard in the bottom (a royal bastard orphan abandoned ...) the pace is accelerating, it attaches to the character, his life, his incredible adventure.
The style is in my opinion excellent, I find that the author writes very well, with a writing certainly not very "efficient" and some long sentences for fantasy, but the descriptions are peotiques and all reads like a good novel from a nice pen .I take a real pleasure to devour the book page after page.
In short good fantasy, maybe not enough "fantastic" for some, but very well written and read like a good cycle romanestique fantastico-medieval.
