We had the same slide. The old was still from the previous tenant, who has lived here for 50 years. I do not think that the thing was 50 years old, but the shower (with us a large shower head) has no longer kept (always tilted down).
The new part now holds bombproof. It is very tight and seems as if it would hold a number of years.
