I've gained an EOS 400D recently my. Since the supplied lens kits will not accommodate a lot, I looked for an inexpensive, yet powerful. For this purpose I have read several reviews and I ended up at the Tamron AF 70-300mm. Unwrapped, started to play and score the same beautiful results. The AF is a little slow but I do not mind. The lens is well made, fits comfortably in your hand and has a metal bayonet. I especially like the Macro function, with which I have already made it very clear images of small animals and plants. The AF denied anything when the lighting conditions are too dark. Also working is recommended using a tripod when the shutter speeds are longer or is "very close" is. All in all, the value for money very good. I really recommend it. For 4 stars. I hold back a performance standpoint. Target group: Ambitious hobby photographers to professionally semi.
