I have previously used the TomTom Rider in 2013 and will first of all try the differences in my view be listed:
After a short acclimatization, I like the use of Garmin - one comes along very well with it. Which one works better, is almost just a matter of taste.
Winding paths: the point is currently still not entirely clear to TomTom. When the Garmin settings are simply insufficient.
Exit routes: here scores in my opinion Garmin features like any routes to display color on the map, I do not know from Tomtom.
Negative at Garmin: sometimes the announcements come so late that you should- not perform the turn in the interest of road safety that's with under ever ill. Here Garmin should urgently provide an update Remedy.
Positive at Garmin:. Detailed announcements "after the hotel ... by the traffic lights ... and street names / numbers) make navigating pleasant addition, the Garmin is significantly faster, leaner, comes with auto bracket (in which one run speaker is integrated ), very positive: Garmin has all required software available for the Mac, the Tomtom only for the TomTom Home, route planning / management goes far only with PC software.
The Tomtom has lost the GPS connection with multiple middle while driving, in an open area (and also depend on the weather) and then showed quite a while rather confused positions.
The Garmin works excellently via Bluetooth with iPhone and my Schuberth helmet. However, my Garmin is a call frozen completely at trial and could be "revived" only by removing and reconnecting the battery.
Unfortunately you do not get directly on the screen, whether all Bluetooth devices are connected, or whether, for example, the phone is not connected - when one sees the Tomtom immediately!
When Garmin can be send with an app more data from a smartphone app for Navi to evaluate there as traffic data (also be weather information and speed measurements transmitted).
I also use the tire pressure monitor that can teach and represent over Bluetooth on Garmin.
On reaching an adjustable limit on Garmin, a warning is issued.
Conclusion: Those who want to pay the higher price, can the Garmin I zugreifen- would do it again (tire pressure monitoring can be retrofitted, software and directions for Mac available, small, car holder here.).
If you want to use the Navi exclusively on bicycle, want to spend less money and can do without some of the features of Garmin, which is likely the Tomtom also rich (for then he gets more opportunities to influence curvaceous routes).
UPDATE:
Several times occurred: on straight track, outside of the village, with a clear view to the sky, the Navi displaced suddenly the GPS location and "runs" after an eternity "of the track" - over tens of kilometers - off road!
Recently, Garmin has changed the firmware to version 2.7.
The Navi has thus become almost unusable for me: the announcements come just yet patched the helmet on (that was before the update still perfectly fine). With the current version I'm forced to regularly look at the screen ..
It is apparently impossible itself einzuspielen an older version on the device.
Very disappointing for a price of> 600 - if not even the basic functions of a Navis run correctly. I've seriously considered, the unit returned to / to complain.
