Philips O'Neill SHO9560 Headband DJ style headphones "The Stretch" (105dB) (Electronics)

Customer Review

================= =================== Introduction

Since I am now on the road for several years with in-ear headphones (application only MP3 player) and I tend to be as Audiophile ('m a musician himself) call, I had some time to upgrade the desire to closed headphones, as I of a detail richer and total deeper / more spacious sound promise.
After a little research I am among other things, on the "The Stretch" encountered which have been assessed by customers as well as magazines tend to be very positive.
Coincidentally, it happened so that Philips was looking for test listeners for your headphones and I was a short letter of motivation, with desire to "The Stretch" sample listening, competed.
I was selected as a test listener and got a little later also sent to said earphone and so you come now to read my report on said headphones to enjoy.

================= =================== Reference

As mentioned before, I am for several years with in-ear headphones go. In this section I have the Sennheiser CX300 as my personal favorite chosen which with a very reasonable price, but very good sound picture points in all frequency ranges and my listening preferences commitments total. They serve as a kind of direct comparison group.

My MP3 player is a "Cowon iAudio9" which I grew a year ago and from the sound reproduction, thanks to its special equalizer, by far the best product is what I have been able to hear in this area.
My music files are ripped in good quality with at least 256Kb / s from CD and are therefore suitable for a high-quality playback.

My musical taste is generally very broad. From indie rock (Arctic Monkeys, The Hives, The Wombats, The Kooks, etc.) via crossover (The Cat Empire), experimental (The Mars Volta, Tool), Metal (Children of Bodom, Wintersun, Chrome Division) and back and again like to selected Ska, Hip Hop, Reggae, Drum n Bass is represented everything with me.
As a musician, I attach particular importance to virtuosity in the evaluation of music.
When testing the headphones all genres were represented.

================= =================== The external

Externally, I find the headphones very appealing. The colors (red and black, anyway one of the best color combinations ever) tells me too much. The concept of the flexible strap seems practical to be (eg in use for winter sports).
The wear is quite pleasant. Nothing expresses or interfere, it is soft and occur when moving my feeling no noise through the material.
Overall, the Stretch acts very high quality.

================= =================== The hearing test

Now that for me actually deciding factor.

With clearly structured, simple design with few music tracks and facets me could quite convince the sound. All frequency ranges were sufficiently detailed, clear and spatially well mapped. The bass has the necessary pressure and the highs are nice and clear with no "squeal" on.
For hip hop, rock or simple drum and bass really perfectly fine. The create my Sennheiser no better.

However, unfortunately I had to realize that the headphones have massive difficulties in imaging of highly detailed songs with a high number of different tracks.
The sound is enormously unclear washed out and flat. It manages the headphones reproduce differentiates the piece and the individual frequency ranges seem to interfere with each other.

This in turn create my Sennheiser easily and very detailed. The only thing I'm missing in the in-ears (in the case but also the "The Stretch") is also an unfortunate spatial depth.

================= =================== Conclusion

So I have now come to the conclusion that the "Philips O'Neill The Stretch" not meet my demands on a headset. Still, he gets three stars for design, comfort, and at least the reproduction of "simple design" music pieces.

I thank you in particular for the Philips GmbH that it has provided me with the headphones available for testing.
So they gave me (and perhaps you) after all, helped to the conclusion that I am but must reorient again for my personal listening preferences.
I also hope to have helped you with this review.
