The cover features a beautiful landscape and a varnish. This is a book of 208 pages imposing. The card Thorin sits inside of the cover, you can detach through a precut page at the end of the book there is a very long Bilbo Thief contract, in case you wish to read between the lines and see in which the hero sest engaged.
There is a generous amount of concepts including on the characters, props and scenery. These are fantasy illustrations and they are all very beautiful and very detailed. There are pieces by Alan Lee, John Howe, Dan Hennah (artistic director of the movie *), Richard Taylor and many other studio Weta Workshop. The book is mainly composed dillustrations and ny is not a lot of pictures, ny you will find not only of images of the shooting and small thumbnails of the actors in the film.
Most concern the picture character designs and what is related to it as the costumes, weapons and other accessories. Figure Bilbo obviously there and the dwarves of the company, goblins, trolls and other creatures. Each character is shown with several design variants, but most are for hair and beard - a hairdresser envy them the complete catalog.
The sets of illustrations are mostly close-ups of certain places and interiors. There are some wide shots but they would have benefited from being printed larger. Very nice designs which offer very neat visited pencil are made by John Howe and Alan Lee.
Those who love film shooting will love the full reviews. There is often a lot to read, some designers speak of a single character, on its design, clothing and weapons. Additional descriptions add depth to the characters.
The back cover states that this book is the first in a series of board books. Except that they do not speak other books related to movies, one can sattendre that suites of The Hobbit also benefit from this type douvrage.
This is a fantastic artbook. Highly recommended for fans of film and fantasy.
