What a wonderful funky world ...?!

Finally ... 2 years from "Made by Maceo" the new album "School's In" the "2% Jazz and 98% Funky Stuff" appears. In my opinion, this album is better than "Made by Maceo" and "Dial Maceo", the 2 previous albums.
The 10 pieces (55 minutes) to give the impression as if Maceo Parker again more his funky roots like "Live on Planet Groove" turns, and some experiementellen path of the last two albums leave. Were these two still very marked by singing hip-hop deposits his son Corey Parker and other sonic experimentation, to Maceo remembers again his more funky artisan roots.
The pieces are not text-heavy by far, but brimming with game and improvisation joy of the master, especially the more than two 8-minute "Opusse": "Basic Radio: 101" and "ABC".
The pieces sound fresh, as if recorded live. Highlights for me are the cover version of "What a Wonderful World", and yet also something (seemingly by the wind melody as children's song) only rapped by Corey Parker play in which he asks the question "What You Know About Funk?". Guest musician is "as usual" Candy Dulfer, unusual is also the perfect and dominant play Hammond organ, which was not so in the other albums in the foreground.
Overall, an absolutely successful, entertaining, again more instrumental work of Maceo Parker, in which all the pieces according to the title of the CD have a reference to school.
I am looking forward to the upcoming European tour in June / July.
The CD is absolutely recommendable for people who all mainstream commercialism fuss of the charts too monotonous, too slick and is mediocre and still put emphasis on handmade, playback free musical craftsmanship. Man lost in Maceo's improvisations, only to be restored by the razor-sharp pallor bearing inserts excited back to reality.
