Whether old or Neufan who knows the history and the story of Unholy knows that Unholy not only musically, but also in general, has turned in appearance, presence and principles by 180 °. That's just fact and can not be denied, no matter how much you want to defend him. But what I want to not discuss, I will assess the album objectively, because music can be good even if the artist is not so unsympathetic here. I will only include the previous albums with what one yes normally does, if you look at has more than a new album of a band.
Anyone who knows the first six albums of Unheilig, who knows how these were presented. Melancholy, gloomy melodies, supported by synths, every now and then electric guitars and countless samples and sounds. In keeping with the music were the lyrics. Lots of content, a lot of depth, a lot of sadness, longing, hope and love. The honesty and the lifeblood invaded formally through the speakers. These texts were presented with a deep voice. I loved this music. With her laughed, cried with her, sought refuge with her. Unholy was for me always a shallow version of Rammstein (which is incidentally my favorite band).
On Grosse Freiheit was by this spell, although not too much to spühren, but a small spark was still there and I have great freedom as one of the better albums, it took me still packed and taken to the concerts. But what with the city lights is happening now, is an incredible event in the history of music. The music on this album has absolutely nothing to do with what the artist has done 12 years before. Absolutely nothing. What has become of his deep, powerful voice? What happened to the dreamy, melancholic melodies? Now there are smooth ironed, austauschebare, 3.5 minutes Poprythmen. What has become of the poetic, full text content? Two verses á 4 rows and then five times the chorus? I recently made my fun times and a four-line stanza thought up off the cuff, with the typical Unheilig phrases. I think I had together in less than 20 seconds four lines that rhymed. So let's say, it takes about two such verses one minute, then considering another four-line chorus in another 20 seconds and has thus written a text for the city lights in less than two minutes. This should now also do not sound sarcastic, but it really does not take more, you can do it even once try.
What is on this album, is nothing more than replaceable pop music, which was a thousand times since. What are looking for a Bourani and Naidoo on a UNHEILIG CD? I would then let me never dreamed that once something comes. These are songs that are currently only at the moment. These are not pieces, which one in 20 years still sounds and then says: "Wow you remember, the city lights of Unholy?". In the latest two years, no one is more interested in this album, whereas one still hears his old records.
I did not tear him for his mainstream conversion here, he is calm when he is in need. I am talking here only about the music, and this is not the music that I associate with Unheilig and I want to hear from Unholy. I hear now times no chart and pop music. And of course, every now again say "no, it forces you to!". To give you right of course, but a fan buys nunmal blind and if he was happy with seven previous albums, then he goes on the purchase of course, assuming that the eighth is good to him. But that was the mistake, and therefore I will not blindly buy the next album and if it strikes this direction again, it does not in my collection.
People who liked the previous albums of Unheilig and looking for German-speaking music á la Rammstein, Eisbrecher, Megadeth etc., I can recommend this album because it strikes exactly the other way, with the "we" actually nothing do have (want).
Who is on the other hand, rhythmic pop music with a good voice and staying texts and profound poetry lays not so much value that can be accessed here.
I ask, however, why, can not be described as a fan when you only know Grosse Freiheit and lights of the city and has not addressed primarily to the past of the band. That I'm a former "hardcore fan" namely hurt in unholy heart. If you want to be true fans, then you should also have idea of your idol and his music. Otherwise I would have also a fan of any artist, which I times a CD was good. I have, for example. 2-3 albums of Die Toten Hosen on my shelf. The band is indeed a long time, I know myself indeed with the history and the other albums is not really, but hey, I call myself sometimes "big fan" of the Toten Hosen. [/ Irony]
I hear the pants just like to, but only because I think a few songs well, I'm far from being a fan and connoisseur. That's why it hurts me more about when people refer to as UH Fan, who did not even know that he has already made music before 2010.
Thank you for a bit of attention.
