A cold winter and a long length has befallen the land of North Vikings. Villagers can neither hunt nor fish. Provisions are becoming increasingly scarce and starvation finally settled. Prayers and offerings to the gods are doing nothing.
The young Björn leads the town in the absence of his father, Gandalf-le-Fou, on an expedition with some vikings. Believing he must appease the gods to put an end to this winter, Björn persuaded some members of the village council to make a human sacrifice, which was not done for three generations; he convinces them to designate Thorgal.
Thorgal can only survive thanks to the food qu'Aaricia fee on its own share to give him. As he sings a ballad, three whales enter the bay fjord; they seem attracted by the singing of Thorgal.
Then come the villagers led by Bjorn, who came to seize the young bard to sacrifice to the gods. But when they see the whales, they understand that the capturing and killing, they may have reservations until next summer.
Having blocked the narrow part of the bay, they are about to whaling but are stopped in their tracks by Hierulf-the-thinker, who believes that a tribute should first be made to Ægir, the god of the oceans .
Parties villagers Thorgal wants to cut the threads that hold whales to free them. But Aaricia falls into the water trying to help. While dark, numb with cold and Thorgal can not help her, his body is brought to the surface by one of the whales.
Thorgal goes to Hierulf-le-Thinker Aaricia to heal, numb, and admits he hears the wise thoughts of whales. Hierulf him then tells the story of three sisters Minkelsönn and how they were punished by Frigg, wife of Odin ...
Yann scenario is excellent and found this well-legend. The scenario is linearly place and action is linked together without any dead time. Surzhenko seems appropriate universe of Thorgal as its beautiful classic illustrations suitable for this universe.
Like "Kriss Valnor" and "She-Wolf", "Youth" looks particularly promising. The second volume is entitled "The Eye of Odin" and is directed by the same creative team.
