The soundtrack is as already described by many other very well and in my opinion varied.
If you know the Batman Begins soundtrack, you can certainly see a lot of parallels but this is due to the nature of the motifs used in soundtracks to GOOD to the spectators to the pictures tell by the music more, for example. the occurrence of famous people etc.
This also happens in this soundtrack, because the important characters of the film are awarded motives.
To come back to Batman Begins, it is inevitable for Room & Howard to use the theme of Batman and other again. The in my opinion very good Batman Begins Soundtrack was thus supplemented. Harvey Dent (and Two Face) and "The Joker" get of course your own designs with the theme of Batman is used less frequently than in the predecessor.
This soundtrack can be very detached from the film listen. This is partly due to the motives which
partly are very nice, but for me but also a variety and depth to be a good soundtrack and it there in this soundtrack. This is in this case because the soundtrack of motives (the first film / soundtrack) were very developed and this soundtrack offers more variety without letting miss again recognizable.
CONCLUSION:
For people hear the bombastic epic soundtracks like Pirates of the Caribbean (1), it could be that they do not fully enjoy this soundtrack as it is not so easy to knit and you have to listen to concentrated to fully enjoy it all. I would not go so far as to compare with known symphonies classical composers, but the composer room and Howard go to a more sophisticated way, which is the film justice and can repeatedly hear new fine details in the attentive audience. Therefore, in my opinion, an Oscar nomination would have been earned.
