Poltergeist (Audio CD)

Customer Review

After the Rhino CD has disappeared from 1996 for some time by the scene and the music will still gladly bought by film music lovers, SONY CLASSICAL brings the music back on the market. SONY CLASSICAL provides the same content as the Rhino CD, which had at that time already completed the previously 35 minutes long record program of MGM Records. You get to hear the entire score, and a little unused material.

This time Oscar-nominated soundtrack (music Oscar went to John Williams: ET) hits the tone for the film so perfect that one can imagine no better music to produced by Steven Spielberg shocker Poltergeist (1982). This is a purely orchestral score, which can be among the best scores in film history. In multiple reviews of this score is called, not without reason as a world-class score.

There are several musical themes that determine the score:
- A beautiful relaxing childlike melody the main character, which initiates the film peacefully and gently (Carol Anne's Theme)
- The theme of which (the other side) represents the Hereafter pastoral and religious Seeming ("The Light")
- The bittersweet Questa Verde theme (in the film, among other things to listen to just before the end credits, when the family Questa Verde leaves)
These recurring themes Goldsmith wrote impressive material for individual sequences. Mysterious and beautiful at the same time underscored is the scene in which the main characters see ghosts come the house downstairs. Ghosts (track: "Night Visitor"). Gripping, partly melodic and rousing the 1st film highlight is accompanied: "Rebirth" - this is the music for the sequence is retrieved in the Carol Anne from beyond. In this piece the "The Light" is also used as the theme of love and cohesion kraftvol. "Rebirth" also includes easy chorale elements which reflect the psychic happening musically perfect. "Rebirth" is great track, which can be good too detached from the film listen !.
The score is also peppered with ingenious musical effects and unexpected shock moments.
Spielberg, who wrote the liner notes on the LP, pointed out that one should not necessarily listen to the night time the plate. He also said that one should not trust Goldsmiths melodies. By this he meant that you should not relax too much when the music for a moment is sometimes gentle and quiet as Goldsmith in any moment can shake gently in a menacing, sinister or sudden terror like music again.
The 2nd movie climax (the two tracks before the End Title) was accompanied by one of the fiercest and most aggressive compositions that Goldsmith ever wrote. After a while silent but deeply darkly menacing track beginning, in which the coming disaster hear bubbling properly Goldsmith brings out the sudden flood of mega-attack and increases the orchestra-terrorism by the minute without install only one acoustic respite. The ingenious terror-like setting is truly teeth on edge and makes a downright cringe. In the last track you can hear again the gentle and beautiful melody of Carol Anne, with which one had the audience hypocritical matches at the beginning of the film peaceful and pleasant to the film. However, this track ends with a disturbing children laughter after the last gentle tone. Another example of Spielberg LP comment that you can not trust Goldsmiths music!
Through this extreme contrast of soft music at the beginning and the perfect musical terror at the end Goldsmith managed a perfect boost of excitement and intensity until the end. A foretaste of the crass music at the end can be heard in the sequence where Carol Anne is kidnapped. Here the orchestra brings out ebefalls already at full attack.
This CD is recommended for everyone which wants to study or experience interested in film music and its working, and for all, what this Spielberg film (screenplay, story and production was from Spielberg, who was constantly on the set too!) And like Jerry Goldsmith , Goldsmith has next Poltergeist written many other ingenious scores: eg Poltergeist 2, The Blue Max, Star Trek The Motion Picture, Secret of NIMH, The Wind and the Lion, Alien (1979), Under Fire, Lionheart, Mulan, Legend, Night Crossing - Night Crossing, The Sum Of All Fears - The stop [great choral Openeing piece], The Mummy, Gremlins 1 and 2 and lots more!

Filmscore Monthly has published in December 2010 a limited double CD of this film! This offers additionally the old LP-cut and alternate material and still isgesamt better sound because it has resorted to more sources. Who wants to have it all, the is highly recommended that limited to 10,000 pieces of CD Double FSM (Filmscore Monthly). Otherwise you have the Sony release an affordable and based on the material in the film a complete version. Better sound, however, on the limited FSM CD. Decide for yourself !!! Who wants to have the double CD of FSM, but should not wait too long. A Goldsmith CD is often sell out very quickly, if it is limited and the title is as star-studded as here!
Lukas Kendall (a producer of coveted Filmscore Monthly Cds wrote in March 2010 on the FSM-page: "To prevent people from spending money for nothing: we will have a 2CD Poltergeist out later this year Mike Mate Sino is going back to the source element. to improve upon the Rhino edition and therefore add a second disc of alternates and the LP program. "

The music of Poltergeist:
Inspiring, complex, brilliant, beautiful, scary and awesome! Film music in the highest perfection!
Strong buy recommendation for intrepid film music fans and some who want to be there!
