Even if you - like me - Johnny Cash appreciates, you have to be able to say that point to this late work, the health rigors quite effect. The sparse instrumentation and focus on the voice here are not always to the benefit of the interpreters. Cash's voice often sounds already quite fragile, frequently you realize the battle for a great tune, the once proud baritone has suffered mightily. Cash himself was its way, confident - according to his own statement sounded the shots for himself not as good as wanted to make him believe his producer. In some pieces, the voice sounds quite introverted, the vocal range and the former sovereignty are gone. But the pieces still are largely chosen carefully and indicate how intimate relationship Johnny Cash on his interpretations had to last. But I still maintain that the cash the middle period has delivered far more impressive shots.
