Customer Review

When John Henry from Nevada City in California, there was the early 70s only two records that alternately rotated on its turntable: Billy Fays self-titled debut in 1970 and his immediate successor "Time of the Last Persecution" in 1971st
John Henry loved the plates full of romance and melancholy, but unfortunately he was one of the few who thought so. Both albums, published by Decca Records were smooth flops and so Bill Fay lost his record deal and it was quiet around the now 69-year-old singer / songwriter.
Too quiet for Joshua Henry, the son of John Henry. He is now 32 and a music producer in Los Angeles. In a positive reminder of the wonderful plates of his father, he succeeded contact with the British Bill Fay take to motivate him and to convince after almost 40 years again to enter a studio. The result can truly "be heard" and is probably the best and most successful late work of recent years. In addition, a late appreciation of a brilliant and talented songwriter.
On "Life is people" Bill Fay remains his themes from the early 70's true:
Biblical metaphors full of melancholy and soulful songs about death and impermanence let me arise when listening a comforting goose bumps.
Songs like the absolutely fantastic "Thank you Lord", or "The Never Ending Happening" reflect the serenity of a man who had to process a lot of disappointments.
Jeff Tweedy, mastermind of the band Wilco, which counts Bill Fay to his big musical models and revered him sing together "This World" with his idol.
"Life is people" is a masterly abgeklärtes late work, full of philosophical questions, well-formulated critique of the hectic lifestyle of our time and pious wishes of the most harmonious retirement trip to the "Coast no one can tell".
The orchestral arranged "Cosmic Concerto (Life is people)" is a genuine manifestation of the concentrated skill of this man and the participating musicians and producers.
