Over the entire 32 tracks across runs the slogan "peaceful" by - at Goose Lane right rock songs not to bump here. Title from the last studio album Blues Funeral find themselves not at all (from an early demo version on CD 2 apart) and also by the magnificent Bubblegum are exclusively quieter representatives to find. This is on the one hand a pity, but it fits very well with the overall concept of this disc. Who is more at his rockier side, knows on which publications he can fall back (incl. His old band "Screaming Trees").
May it be with me on almost exactly these 20 quiet title come down, I would choose / need - The selection of the first CD is quite well done. I do miss, however, the songs "Stay" from the third album (Vintage Lane goose - and was also one of the few singles ..), and three of my personal favorites; "Undertow" and "Ugly Sunday" from the first as well as "Dead on you" from the second plant. But you can not have everything we know, ..
His 2001's factory Field Songs has a total of 5 titles, while his first work was concerned only with two songs. Is perhaps also with the fact that Lanegan even worked as a co-producer and he has been frequently voiced in interviews cause him more like least his first and third album.
Main reason for buying is likely, however, to be the second CD for many. Of the 12 titles diehard fans are known (up to) three titles of bootlegs. The last song "Blues Run The Game" is from a live concert recording from 15.10.2000 and was sympathetic manner so taken exactly, not worked - including a breakdown, where the guitar turned out and a minute's silence and to the fact that taciturn men talk and joke sometimes hears. The version of "Following the Rain" - an outtake from the second album - is unfortunately present in rather poor quality; a years umherschwirrender bootleg is superior high here. The third possible "known" song is a cover of John Cale (recorded according to the booklet in 1998) and was already found on a large video portal.
Where I anspreche just - in the booklet, the possible inclusion of data and all the participating musicians for each song called what is sometimes very interesting. "Leaving New River Blues" was recorded only example of Mark and Troy Van Leeuwen (Qotsa) in a hotel room in Australia, while they were there on tour.
"No Contender star" is the recording of 2011, the latest song of bonus tracks, while the rest of the songs primarily comes from 2000-2005.
Very surprised I was about the "Grey goes Black" demo that I actually expected in time got into the Blues Funeral session, but that a very early version of 2002, with different lyrics and acoustic guitar.
My favorites are beside the already mentioned "Leaving New River Blues" definitely "Halcyon Daze" (one of my new favorite Lanegan songs), "To Valencia Courthouse" and the vocal version of "Blues for D", which is already an instrumental was released in 2001 version. A melody that you already had in your ear to hear at once with lyrics, listening to a whole new song is almost the same - very nice version.
The songs that I have not mentioned here, are pretty good and you can be happy that they have finally seen the light. Who knows how many songs are still waiting in Goose Lane drawer on us?
Until now again comes out something new, you have some new treasures, where you can enjoy - although in the last 9 months with "black pudding" and "imitation" this is already the third record with new songs of Lanegan, where you feel after such a long dry spell really can not complain as a fan.
Oh yes - the presentation of the CD is also very chic. A very thick digipack, in the front lies a 44-page booklet with lyrics and photos as well as the participants and behind the two discs, which are protected by paper wrappers. Lightweight vinyl feel so.
