Craig Armstrong has composed an impressive soundtrack for Romeo + Juliet, which sometimes sounds very powerful and sometimes very intimate again. Opened the score with the Prologue and the English monologue at the beginning of the film. Then it starts and O Verona skin the handset to the choir. Like a classic play, the film opens with a pompous overture and immediately shows that it is about big fights, struggles and love.
And this more classic moments can also be otherwise always in the music. Especially the version of Kissing You in The Balcony Scene is wonderful, but also the final with Death Scene. In contrast are the modern Popmomente such as The Montague Boys, Introduction To Romeo and The Challenge. Violent Beats can be found above all in Young Hearts Run Free, the crazy party song at the beginning of the Capulet ball.
Highlights are many, for example, in Gas Station Scene with Tybalt's appearance. The voltage applied to old spaghetti Western music is just wonderful exciting, but also a bit excessive, but also makes sense in terms of the scene and the film. A goosebumps moment is definitely Mercutio Death to the lament of the chorus!
This CD offers 65 minutes of music and has a great Hörfluss, precisely because it is very close to the film. Not only chronologically, but also with many well-rehearsed dialogues from the movie. On one hand I think it's nice, because it fits into the atmosphere and only certain dialogues were used, on the other hand it can also be a bit annoying at times, and I have personally not so great trouble, as perhaps others who want to enjoy pure music. My only problem is that some dialogues are extremely quiet compared to the music (good example is The Fight Scene)
Conclusion:. A great soundtrack, which is definitely better than Vol 1. Armstrong's score is wonderful to hear the objections of individual songs and dialogues support the atmosphere and just the mix of classical and pop music I like very much. Still, I highly recommend the double-disc edition, because on Vol. 1, some songs can be found, you should pack up to Vol. 2 to to get all the listening pleasure of the film.
