After really enjoying "Stoner" I hesitated before picking up Williams' other classic. The title and picture of a buffalo stuck in a blizzard did not arouse me Exactly. But while "Butcher's Crossing" centers on buffalo hunting it's about a whole lot more and I guarantee After the first chapter or so you'll be hooked and kept in suspense right up to the last line. Full of life truths too - Be Thankful for the Simple Things in life, and do not cut off more than you can chew - John Williams' classic adventure is every bit as good as - Possibly even better than - "Stoner". With bookstores these days full of daft titles like "Stressed Mums' Cappuccino Club" etc. "Butcher's Crossing" is a breath of fresh air and as good a summer holiday read as you'll find anywhere.
