This integral conducted over several years with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra is a remarkable unit. Sir Georg Solti probity combines clarity and dramatic sense while controlling any emotional overflow, sometimes scathing and uncompromising, this interpretation is of great nobility and leadership of view makes these partitions readable inspired but often chaotic. This is my point of view with that of Bernard Haitink and Rafael Kubelik, one of the largest modern Mahlerian achievements; Leonard Bernstein champion of Mahler, inspired, personal and always on edge is a more delicate emotional approach. The sound engineers have made Decca technical prowess perfectly legible making these dense and complex sound masses, joining in that the design of the conductor. So much for the general approach, it would of course detailing symphony by symphony, but the whole is a very high level.
