based out of 5 stars you can already guess whether I express a purchase recommendation for this double album with security.
Here in a nutshell:
- Once again a high quality Ayreon double album on qualitatively very high level
- Fantastic singers
- Great story, great lyrics and successful concept (even though a lot of space is left for self-interpretation - right up my alley!)
- Fantastic artwork (never imagined the LP brought - because it works even better)
- Usual high production levels (both CD and LP)
I would call it a successful blend of the past three Ayreon albums (The Universal Migrator, The Human Equation and 01011001). Many world music influences (Human Equation), many electronic elements (Universal Migrator I) and a lot of hearty Hard Rock / Heavy Metal Gefrickel - skillfully packaged under a hood.
So a very strong buy recommendation and who could suffer the mentioned three albums will not be disappointed with this double-disc definitely (the story is a matter of taste ... everyone should think themselves his part - I like :-).
Enjoy listening (best on headphones).
Edit: I unfortunately forget, something to the "42 pieces", and 4 pieces to say, each about 20 minutes: you can hear the disc as a whole, is the wonderful (is just a concept album). However, it is difficult for a "specific song" select as favorites. For me personally, the pure nothing ... but there are quite a lot of listeners and fans that may disturb it. One can not say that "Track 5 from CD 2" now is the best song, because it's just stop is just one part of a larger piece halt.
