We Slept at Last (CD)

Customer Review

Marika Hackman, who sest made known in the past thanks to some EP in an acoustic folk vein, released his first LP, We slept at last, and we can say that this is a great success. Dà Aged just 22 years, singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist (she does almost everything on this album), with the first disc, the artist English, with startling maturity extends and enriches its disturbing and fragile universe at a time.

Fragile if lon sen is its pretty pure and ethereal voice which decorates darrangements discrete voice and catchy melodies Quà its delicate, sweet and melancholy (Ophelia, Skin). Worrying too, when you consider the arrangements which it accompanies his songs, based on acoustic guitars certainly, but also electronic sounds, heavy percussions (In words), discreetly trafficked electric guitars (Open Wide the style cold wave) coming echoing populate a world dark and stuffy (Undone, undress). And the contrast between the fragility of the voice and the menacing tone and venomous works beautifully, and takes us away from our world too prosaic.

There is no missteps in this collection of 12 tracks that are of course think Cat Power or even perhaps Joanna Newsomme (for the diversion of the more folk than for voice), or the too little known Alice Lewis (for the universe and voice). But these references do not adequately reflect the originality of talented Marika Hackman. All quon wish him, this is what will be very successful for what can delight us with new albums as beautiful as this one.
