The Trek gates eBook Reader I had some time in the shop Hugendubel in hand me could but after the negative experience with the Kindle not bring him to buy. Positive I found the backlit display, even though I was on the eInk technology already rather excited. Alternatively, I know even the Kindle Paperwhite my sister, also a fine device but I quite simply too expensive. TrekStor Reader I got now at a good Used Price at Amazon in absolutely mint condition, the feel is quite pleasant, depending on your hand size but I recommend (anyway!) The right pocket to it is thus more secure and relaxed in his hands. The finish is well done in my opinion, the unit acts quality, and summarizes well to.
Display
The display is bright and contrasty, has, however, unlike the Kindle Paperwhite in the weakest setting still too much power, can indeed read quite well in total darkness, but to the eye it is more pleasant when a light in the room to be one. The display is very low-reflection and a TFT even on a summer still good to read it of course but should better consult the shadows, even here has the eInk display the Paperwhite compared ahead. If battery is very low, the display flickers imperceptibly that disappears immediately after loading.
Ease of use
Many keys do not have it so well, I did not even look in the manual, after 5min you mastered the device very intuitive. The keys provide tactile feedback, which I find very pleasant, especially in darkness, the response of the keys is somewhat delayed, or you have to press CORRECT already if that is up to the key itself or rather to the speed of the processor I do not know. The start is fixed by Equip, just reading more libraries on the SD card. The flip during reading is excellent and does not disturb the flow of reading, when thinning the library but noticeably slower! The menus are self-explanatory but they differ depending on where you just located, while reading one does not have to access all the menu options. The auto-rotate is blessing and a curse: The idea of course is good and you need it now and then but I have switched off after a relatively short time, because who reads lying, goes mad when the format changes with every movement of the body. It is different with the photos (which the display is very appealing), because the tilt function is invaluable if you want to look at photos of different orientation. At larger photo folders it shows a small flaw of the unit: It seems to be sometimes overwhelmed by the computer capacity slightly, either when opening photo folders or initial load of large PDFs because can certainly times more than half a minute pass before you the document has open and sometimes thinks it would have hanged himself.
Compatibility
Everything I have not tried here for a long time, epub, txt, rtf and pdf, the device loads without complaint. Epub is natural in this Reader the ideal format, PDFs are displayed well when they are formatted for display size in Tachenbuchformat (the focus is of course not to compare with epub), it becomes difficult when you look at Din-A4 formatted PDF files. The maximum of 200% magnification are possible here are often too little and in any case very unwieldy. Large PDFs need as already mentioned a long time until they are charged. Image files I use actually only jpg, which were also read and displayed all outstanding, after (slow so) loading the picture folder can fix wander through the images.
Accumulator
4h charge time are recommended, which I consider a not always, but 2h bring again hours of reading pleasure, to save battery but one should pay attention to full charge I think that here too the eInk devices are of course immense advantage, my Kindle could I nebenhinlegen four weeks and read it every day without that the battery would have made limp, here's to good 5-8h out the juice, depending on the display settings you have chosen.
Music
I can not hear music while reading ... this feature is so completely over now to me.
Conclusion:
For my purposes, I'm sure to have chosen the right device. Read and images are exactly what I needed in a small space and that's what I get with the TrekStor eBook Reader 3.0, for the backlight, the monitor screen and the really low prices I suppose the lower battery life gladly accept. Anyone looking for a reader who is not really intended for the domestic coffee or the morning Pendlerei but for 4 weeks holiday in the outback, which should scratch around for a eInk device with correspondingly longer battery life. Much can a Kindle better, especially but burn more money and bring many restrictions with it, these are the points where the TrekStor is simply "better". The matching bag gets an A "must-have" recommendation, because even when I relax while reading has good klarkam without already thereby again increased markedly.
