Customer Review

The review includes a detailed guide on how to make out the ZyXEL Access Point, easy to understand especially for the laity. I have successfully tested it thanks to Amazon Member "M", thanks for the hint!

Experience with the ZyXEL WRE2205 as a wireless repeater:

have the ZyXEL WRE2205 used as a wireless repeater for approximately 1 year to my best satisfaction. He is set quickly and the whole apartment has Wi-Fi reception, where once there was no signal. In the one-year service life, he is not even crashed. With the original performance, I was fully satisfied.

-------------

(Also called base station) The purpose of a Wireless Access Point

It should be generated from an existing wireless LAN network (from the router For example, Internet cable).

My concern, I am with cable Germany and to pay extra for wireless Internet, the cable router (model Hitron 30360) otherwise not transmitting. Numbers I do not want, and therefore need a "Access Point", which makes the Internet signal that provides the routers on the LAN cable to WLAN.

-------------

Brief overview of the procedure:

Use the ZyXEL WRE2205 as an access point appears only not possible. The ZyXEL manual is here shortened and completely incomprehensible, it even remains unclear whether it can ever go.

But Amazon Member "M" has found a great way of making it still possible. It is installed on the ZyXEL WRE2205 in a few steps an entirely alien firmware from another manufacturer. Has this performance technology for the same device. This is from the ZyXEL WRE2205 ado the Edimax EW-7438APN. This is exactly what we are looking for a simple access point, in a few minutes by anyone adjustable.

Step-by-step instructions on converting the ZyXEL WRE2205 wifi amplifier to a Edimax EW-7438APN WLAN Access Point (base station)

1. Connect the ZyXEL device to power and connect to the computer via LAN or WLAN. Log in to the status screen on [...]

There is a password prompt. Factory setting is the user "admin" and the password is "1234". If the ZyXEL Repeater is not in factory setting, can be long it by 10 seconds, press the key button reset again, he has to, of course, at the current and be turned on.

2. Now you want in the blue "Status Screen", where the left "Maintenance" is. Probably the "Wizard Setup" screen is displayed first, you leave with the click on "Exit".

3. In the "Status Screen" left click "Maintenance" and "Tools" until you are in the tab "firmware" is. There you can specify on his compurter the directory to which the ZyXEL after the new firmware (.bin) file searches.

4. In a new tab you are looking for the firmware to be installed. They can be found on edimax.com, or simple in a Google search for the "Edimax EW-7438APN". On the device side under Downloads> Firmware. Currently it is version V1.11, the 2014-02-19

5. Unzip the downloaded firmware. The resulting .bin file will now specify tab on the ZyXEL in the "Firmware" and installed by pressing "upload". The Installation bar runs through without questions.

6. The ZyXEL Off / On switch. It is after this procedure an Edimax EW-7438APN. According to the searchable wireless networks radiated from ZyXEL WLAN has disappeared, is ststattdessen min a new WLAN appears after about 1-2, the "EdimaxAPXX" means. The last XX are random numbers, each time differently.

7. To change the settings for the new wireless network to determine (eg, name and WLAN password) necessary to connect to the EDIMAX device. This connection does not work via LAN cable. In WLAN network, you can select the "EdimaxAPXX" device but is but asked when connecting to an unknown security key. The is the Edimax devices normally be resolved separately, here we of course did not him. To get around this, you connect the Edimax device via LAN cable attempt with the same machine of the connection via WLAN. Once the wireless connection is established, the question of the security key appears, you press on the EDIMAX the button with the key. Under the field where the lack of security key is entered, is also a reference to the button. It works for me now and not, just try and maybe even restart EDIMAX. In the "Network Connections" in the Windows authentication attempt in the status of the LAN connection is displayed.

8. To define the settings menu EDIMAX wireless password and name, you go in the browser on [...]. You will be asked for login name and password of the settings menu. They are per default "admin" and "1234".

9. After clicking on the "IQ-Setup", you can define WLAN password and name. Once that is done, the EDIMAX must now be plugged in via cable to the LAN source (eg LAN cable to the router with Internet access). Playing on the computer, the new Wi-Fi should now be visible after 1-2 minutes. Done.
