I've tried it with a Canon S95, but was not satisfied with the quality and service. This was followed by a Fuji X100. Slightly larger, great image quality, but in the end but still only a fixed focal length and, in my opinion, mediocre service and with service I mean mostly the turning wheel on the back.
This was followed by a Sony RX100. Hmm ... compact enough, good image quality, but the autofocus has not always been entirely satisfied. The high ISO quality was ok but not sensational and overall my camera was just never has really taken. The compromise just always seemed too big and the difference to my DSLR was just too obvious and at the end of the Sony remained then too often in your pocket.
In between I had a Fuji X-Pro1 bought myself that I still call my own and of which I am still enthusiastic. That meant that I mean Canon 5D Mark 3 including several excellent lenses sold and now all swear on the Fuji system.
But I digress ... The Fuji is great, but still not compact. Some time ago I became aware of the GM1. Only ridiculed and yet curious. Then held the day times in the hand and an impulse purchase but I would say my search is complete. The quality is definitely on the Canon S95 and about the RX100 (subjective on my part; especially at high ISO). It is worse than the Fuji and the 5D Mark 3, but not so much that you might never take and exactly counts for me at the end.
Anyone simply looking for a small camera, he image quality but rather "do not care" is and who does not like to spend a lot, which is well served with a "simple" compact camera to about 200 euros. Appreciate all the quality, change lenses !! may want to even want to make settings and so a camera always with you want, I can recommend the GM1 highly enough. In addition, it is just a great second or third camera where the whole family can have fun. The automatic setting gives very good jpegs. Not everyone can or wants to edit the effort make RAW data.
Even the kit lens is more than neat. Significantly better than expected. But herewith I come to the next big plus. You can change lenses and that's great! The selection is great and some bright fixed focal lengths are waiting to be tried.
It is a pity of course, that there is no hot shoe, but that would be kind of ridiculous and is for me not a minus point.
In short, I am very satisfied and consider the still proud 699 euros (RRP; including kit lens) for ok. For the money you obviously already gets a Canon 700d, but that's not just so small that you can have it always with you. So in the end it remains a personal decision.
I can not say anything yet about the video and WiFi function. Videos are with me not very center stage, but it's still good to know that the GM1 can take in 1080p and, according to other reviews, apparently also quite good.
The Wifi function sounds as more interesting and this I wanted to try the day necessarily. To share pictures with friends etc. Registered sounds very nice. I'm curious.
A few minor negative points I have, however.
-the Flash can be used only to 1/50 sec. Or slower. As a fill flash so only partially suitable.
-The Battery. The performance is OK, but a second battery actually mandatory.
-No Hand strap. Although you get a shoulder strap, but no wrist strap, which I would have thought much more sense.
-Objektivdeckel (Lens back) and housing cover missing. Why unfortunately, that remains a mystery to me.
No minus point for the camera, but overall inappropriate, the price of the handle. Proud 100 euros for a few grams of aluminum, because I already missing some words.
Overall, however, an absolute Hardly recommendation, therefore 5 Stars.
