Dirty Mind (Audio CD)

Customer Review

With Dirty Mind Prince put 1980 his third album within 3 years. The debut For You and his second self-titled album was still quite immature.
Dirty Mind with 8 songs and a running time of less than 30 minutes, however, is completely audible and almost a party plate. The only quieter piece Gotta Broken Heart Again.
Prince sings on this record - as on almost his entire early work to Controversy - in falsetto. This is a bit strange. Curtis Mayfield made the but for example also. Lenny Kravitz partly.
Dirty Mind is very funky and very minimalist. The song heard after today's standards more like demo versions. Of the instruments almost everything is built only on drums, bass, cheap keyboards and a little guitar. Everything sounds very crude, clear and slightly reworked. Prince explores here not from his musical boundaries.
Thematically, almost exclusively to the One in all its facets. Only the song title may be seen as such. From oral sex to incest and more.
Dirty Minds successor Controversy does not serve up this album. The musical genius of Prince appears only really from 1999 onwards.
Front and back cover with Prince in long boots, thong, shirtless and jacket are also the record. The inlay in the Vinyl record on which the band is depicted with incredible clothes, you have to have seen.
Conclusion:
Who wants to experience the early Prince in all its glory once to Dirty Mind should increase.
The SHM-CD (also parade, Purple Rain and Controversy are recommended from the SHM series, 1999, I find less successful) sounds in comparison to normal CD sensational on. It is loud, has more bass and still maintain a good momentum. Unfortunately, the SHM-CD is also a proud price.
