Summer 1985: I'm 15 and I hear on the radio for the first time "A little closer to the stars", song with pop-morning synthesizers and electric guitars, played by a Toulouse group whose singer, Emile some Vandelmer recounts without smiling, with a fixed look, lived out by thousands of "boat people" in Southeast Asia. This song I will hear repeatedly on the radio for weeks, and will join the cohort of fans of the Gold group. As for the song, it will remain 24 weeks in a row ranked in the top 50.

Further success will follow "Captain Abandoned" "City of Light" "Calicoba" "Let us sing" "Diamant Dort" each time with the same recipe: a metallic rock sound and doped synthesizer, a ubiquitous battery, acute and powerful voice that carries to these distant horizons discussed or implied in each song. There will even be a live at the Palais des Sports in Paris in 1988, I'll listen again on tape to the user (or mislead) because I never put my hands on it.

Then come the 90s with the band split and the wilderness before a "renaissance" in 1999 through the merger with the "Images" group (Demons Midnight) giving rise to a reinterpretation successful songs flagship each training under the "Emile et Images" label. Today, thirty years after "Closer to the Stars" magic always works with this compilation containing the successes that have passed through the Gold group the 80 in a golden coach, but also other songs less publicized and equally moving and haunting for texts and melodies (Son of the Highlands, Josy-Ann, Music ... Thanks to the successful tour Stars 80 initiated in the late 2000s, the imprint left by Gold in the French pop is not completely erased. I had the chance to see during this one, in April, Emile, Mario and Jean-Louis (Images) interpret before my eyes, live, "Closer to the Stars" but also "City of Light "I can tell you that sacred chills traveled my spine, hearing the audience around me sing these tunes recorded in the memoirs of the French variety.
