The rebirth of Poland in the 20th century is a miracle of history. How this country divided and stuck between the giant Russian, German and Austro-Hungarian could he rise from the ashes, 130 years after its dismemberment in the 18th century? This miracle at the last Polish World War and to a significant extent to an exceptional man, Joseph Pilsudski who foresaw the defeat of the Central Powers in a future war and able to repel the Soviet forces at the Battle of Warsaw in 1920 (with the help of the French generals). It was certainly not a pure democrat, he established an authoritarian regime but without falling into criminal persecution. As Polish he could only know anarchy or leading in government, which resulted in previous centuries the ruin of Polish independence.
With the talent that he knows in other books like "The memorial Foch - My talks with the Marshal," "Bonaparte in Toulon", "The poor America," Raymond Recouly described the personality and recent history his country so rich in talent. The interest of this book for those who do not know the history of Poland is that it changes the atmosphere, we learn things that few know French. At the time of publication of this book in 1935 Poland, despite great poverty knew his last years of freedom and happiness, before the disaster of the Nazi invasion in 1939 and the Soviet occupation that followed. Pilsudski for Poland has been the man in those years.
