As Jean Lopez in his excellent preface, Sebastian Haffner was a free spirit, somewhat confusing ideological journey, between Atlantic Alliance and Eastern bloc, and always disturbing essayist, author of several important books (including a beautiful synthesis on Spartacism). Here of the big biography Fest or Kershaw, but short chapters: "life", "achievement", "success", "chess", "crimes" ... almost every paragraph illustrating a key idea sometimes questionable but still stimulante.Pour Haffner Hitler always knew what he wanted: to make Russia living space and eliminate the Jews; his whole policy since the beginning, serves both objectifs.Et when he realizes its failure to Moscow, he launched into a sacrificial vision of Germany unworthy to survive it and therefore not worthy of existence: hence the title of the last chapter: "treason": SH Hitler betrayed the nation German. The reissue of this book is therefore very welcome, and reading likely to fuel a reflection off the beaten battus.Les comparisons between Hitler and other leaders (Stalin, for example) are relevant and complete portrait of a man obsessed by the will to power and who was by no means a man of state, according to Haffner.
