A brilliant album!

"A Broken Frame" makiert a difficult time for Depeche Mode. Former songwriters had left the band and the critics gave the band barely a chance! Martin Gore had to fill this gap and came up with 10 brilliant songs from the little room, which had nothing in common with the songs from the debut album "Speak and Spell". An interesting mix of simple but challenging songs full of atmosphere came out of it. This Atmoshäre could never again capture as wonderful as on this album the band. The album seems complete in itself and is all of a piece! The band but called this work as its weakest, which I can understand in any way. From today's perspective, the songs and the sound of "A Broken Frame" act out of date and I think you have to have spent this time in his youth in order to really appreciate this album can. No other Depeche Mode album would fit better in the year 1982! All other albums of Depeche Mode have the elements of "A Broken Frame" and shows that this album represents the basis of their musical creativity! As LP this disc was then (1982) all the rage of the "New Romantics", although the band with this kind of music did not want to be associated. It was an album for the teenager this time! Unfortunately the band in Germany "Duran Duran", "Adam and the Ants" and "OMD" was not very well known at this time, that time were the big acts. The "New German Wave" was at its peak, there were bands from abroad little chance to achieve high rankings in the charts. Man, that's a long time! Perhaps the band recognizes someday, what a great album they once created. Listen to "Leave in Silence", "My Secret Garden" and "The Sun and the rain fall" on. "A Broken Frame" speak my feelings and desires like no other Depeche Mode album! Never again be Depeche Mode so naive and dreamy sound like here, because after that the band made only more serious and schwerlastigere albums. But with this album the band has done everything right! The award-winning cover reflects the mood of the album again perfect. Even the single B-sides: "Now this is fun" and "Oberkorn" are well above average and would have found in this work a worthy place. Too bad that Depeche Mode have this style not vefolgt! The tape of this album is now very embarrassing, especially the video-clips of Julian Temple! This what I think is great, just like the playful of "Ata Tak", childish and unique cover designs of the singles of "See you" and "The Meaning of Love". From "A Broken Frame" easily more singles could be extracted, such as "My Secret Garden" and "The Sun and the Rain Fall" and the joyous "Photograph of you". Lyrically almost all songs wallow in a sweet pain, as it had already felt every teenager at some point! The texts are by no means stupid, but showed already largely Martins qualities as a songwriter. The lyrics spoke to teenagers from the soul! Dave, Mart and Fletch were sooo young. Mart with blond mop of hair and Dave with a permanent grin on his face. I watch all these photos to me again and again gladly. An inexplicable longing flooded me while listening to this album! It is as if I would revive my own youth again to work up to it. Memories come to the surface and I feel put me back by decades. Had the band to this day not as successful, this little treasure would have disappeared from the scene. I highly recommend the kids this time immersed in this brilliant and atmospheric music! In my opinion it is her best album to date! Unfortunately, the booklet on the inside no longer contains the beautiful red presentation and photos of the LP from 1982. The design has been completely changed to my sorrow! I know of no other album known which so skillfully the zeitgeist of the early 80s is reflected as "A Broken Frame". No matter how old you are, everyone needs his own teen and my album is this! "A Broken Frame" is a completely underrated work and I hope that it finally gets due recognition! Dave, Martin, Fletch finally makes your ears on!
