When I heard it for the first time completely, I thought in the first half of the panel: "Geil!", In the second half: "We'll see." But yet I really knew already that she had already convinced me. When I then heard in the evening the second time I was in love.
The album is barely HipHop. And although I hope certainly that his next album again consists of rape, I find it uncommonly well done and round. A concept album that is best always fully heard, so that it can unfold. It is thoughtful and very soulful. Kanye demonstrates halt his current mood.
The thing with the distorted by Autotune voice suddenly no longer bothers me here. I think it is because here simply everything fits together. Normally me this voice changer would beastly nervous (and has done so in advance).
808s & Heartbreak starts very quietly, raises in the middle with Paranoid and RoboCop and will end again quiet and melancholy. This flash me particularly quieter songs like Welcome to Heartbreak or Amazing, but also Coldest winter in which Kanye processed his mother's death (RIP). The sudden appearance of the rough voice of Young Jeezy at the end of Amazing is a stark contrast within this "soft" album, but fits.
The album is permeated by heartache and a lot of feeling. No Party Album (although the electro-like piece Paranoid quite goes forward and "danceable" is), but rather to sit back and enjoy. Kanye conveys his feelings while on a very authentic way, which is not annoying at all pathos. If you have been following his interviews and commentary lately, such an album is actually only logical. But He manifests sometimes even the wish that soon all the people "Okay, Okaaay ..." sing the in this case rather cheerful chorus of RoboCop. He combines melancholy and joie de vivre.
Some fans complain that Kanye, to sell with this style. I see it the other way around. This peculiar in literally album brings precisely the "risk", not to arrive in the mainstream and is more difficult to sell. Kanye seems to care. He pulls courageously through his thing and sold thus precisely not (unless you this in a pop star of his caliber can ever say!).
I think Kanye West has delivered with 808s & Heartbreak a disc which is second to none, is difficult to compare with other albums and has ultimately become very strong. Who HipHop in the "classical" sense (ie rap) could expect to be disappointed. Whoever indulges no dogmas and enters an appearance this album has great opportunities to be amazed.
