Since my Nikkor 18-200 VR was too short in focal length, I put me a Sigma to 50-500er. Visually there was nothing wrong with that thing with the great range of focal lengths, but no VR and 1.8 kg and a length of about 25 cm flew it almost always out of my camera bag. One day friend Franz returned from a safari in Africa with crackling sharp images, which especially the shots of birds and other small animals shy away impressed. Everything he had shot with the new, handy 70-300er that was hardly larger and heavier than my 18-200er. Decision: have hawked my Sigma and added myself for the 70-300er. Conclusion: Bin heavily inspired! More Details: The lens makes a thoroughly quality impression, even with the extended tube no play is noticeable. The autofocus works sufficiently quickly and accurately, is noticeably weaker, however, in poor lighting conditions. The VR II is almost a must at this focal length and works phenomenally. The comforting largely on the light intensity 5.6 away! Among the recordings: Between 70 and 200 mm focal length, the 70-300er -What sharpness betrifft- with twice as expensive lenses easy to keep up, from 200 it is at the edges, however, are increasingly blurred, but what is with (Labortwerte watch!) Fade can get to grips largely. One more detail: With 1.5 meters minimum distance, it is of course not a macro lens, but if you look close up is fetches with focal length 300 even a little more depth inside than in a macro! Conclusion: If you value the handling of his equipment while good pictures would bring home, is with this look well off. Another advantage is that it is fully suitable for full format, therefore for the Nikon D3 and the other full-format cameras, the Nikon will release no doubt soon.
