My astonishment was huge. Exterior and interior shots, even in low light and the flash turned off, this camera can handle up about ISO 1200 up with an image clarity and detail that is unparalleled in this class of camera.
Even without resorting to clever ways of multiple exposures makes this camera as shots with extremely high contrast very balanced exposed images. The dark areas are fine and sharply drawn through, without the previously usual Verrauschungen.
The Image Stabilizer is another pleasant surprise: I have recordings from free hand made with 1/3 second and the picture is clear. Even the formidable for such a compact zoom range up to 350 mm, making it manageable, as well as the fantastic macro shots (macro range from 1cm !!).
A valuable for me advance over the "old" S8100 is developed wide-angle, starting at 25 mm. That one has the zoom of 10x to 14x expanded, certainly sometimes quite pleasant and interesting, not for me but weighs as much as the wide-angle range. More than 10-fold I zoom very rarely with the S8200.
One already mentioned highlight the S8200 is the amazing, relative light intensity for me, quite different than it can actually suspect the aperture values (a success of the backside illumination CMOS sensor, the alleged 40 percent more light output results).
According to my experience with some Nikon cameras of the new, current generation, even and especially when compared to Class same cameras from other manufacturers, I would argue that Nikon is the manufacturer currently, the new technology of the backside illumination CMOS sensors best grip has understood and put into production. Nikon has just done so well to match the very good lenses with new processors and BSI CMOS sensors that optimum results in terms of image quality (u. Video quality), use, handling and compactness has been achieved.
While quasi can adjust everything manually in P300 (in addition to very good automatics), the S8200 sets completely on automatics, but which I believe allow all important and necessary variations. The Scene Auto is safe and fast, the adjustable scene programs cover all areas and are still manageable and controllable so quickly in number. In the program I use effects like the easy to use "Color selection" for truly effective shots.
And all that can be purchased to time for only a little over 200 euros, I am simply amazed.
Of course, I now hear again some commentators howl: "Yes, but she can not a RAW, and anyway, what should already bring to this small sensor, as compared to an SLR?"
I can not really hear you. This is but fundamentally to its own claim and to the buyer circle of those who wish to purchase an affordable camera, with excellent automatic programs, which is fast, and therefore ideal for snapshots, which can have always with you because of its compact size, and nevertheless offers an all-round excellent image quality, for great, large format photo books, or even poster.
But if I have to do very specific photo requests to populate exhibitions to create giant poster or photo wallpaper etc., then of course I reach for an SLR, take pictures (of course!) In RAW, editing and optimizing the images in " Lightroom "very complex and meticulously.
BUT: The user, for the S8200 was designed, really do not need all that! (Or, you use this camera as a wonderful Ergänung to much more expensive "mirror reflections", like me.)
