Pearl (Paperback)

Customer Review

This is the story of a large pearl, how it was found and then lost again. This is the story of Kino, the fisherman, his wife Juana and their babies Coyotito. That's the short tale of a poor Indian-born fisherman fishing in California, the largest pearl in the world. He hopes it will bring him everything he always dreamed, the best for his wife and son, social recognition, and respect. But this discovery awakens the envy of neighbors and unleashed around him the forces of evil ...

The theme and message of the work are very simple: money does not buy happiness. But beyond that simplicity, style Steinbeck tale metamorphosis into a tragic parable judging human nature, jealousy and corruption. Steinbeck remarkably characterizes human behavior, in short but sharp passages. His descriptions of the vices and virtues of men are a terrible and relentless accuracy. Any analysis of the author is distilled through a fluid style. The plot is conducted as in a detective novel, the events follow one another in order to keep the player always in turmoil, until tragedy.

A nice text to Steinbeck style but very hard by the black history and to the end without thinning.
