By cons I do not recommend this toy for a child so young. I think not until 8 or 9 years if properly because it requires a thoughtful interactive interaction.
Indeed if handled somewhat brutally, he gets angry, his voice changes like "Exorcist" (deep voice from beyond the grave), his eyes flash and it scared my little girl who has since taken its distance from him. We reformatted the furby, caressing and cuddling him, but my little girl holding a little wary because too young to integrate all these subtleties.
As against an older child it can be a nice gift and a small virtual companion that knows how cuddly and nice little we the tender, and that handles gently.
