This slate is a well-designed tool to learn numbers and letters but especially for writing. My 5 year old son was on a steep learning writing phase, it has been able to control and use the stylus and the "tablet". The sound is modulated (2 levels), there are also two usage levels. Device delivered with batteries. Good stuff.
