Ulysses from Baghdad This novel EESchmitt reads quickly because of a simple, uncluttered writing, but incisive. This is the Schmitt of the "good enough Schmitt." Of course we not reached the heights of "The Gospel According to Pilate," or "The share of the other," or "When I was a work of art," not to mention the Cycle of the Invisible and five short stories which are all masterpieces, aside "The sumo '' I have not found great. I do not forget his theater also delights me. Here the author talks about serious things with some humor and humanism but with restraint: clandestine life. And the tone he adopts ready to reflect. We do not know our luck and happiness and it's Saad who makes us understand. How can we complain again? To tragic as the events of Saad, Schmitt does not sink into the melodramatic. The dialogues are tasty as always striking and particularly that between the Italian customs officer who wants to abolish borders and Saad. However, the downside I could issue it's a bit simple idealism which demonstrated the author. If all Iraqis (among others) are fleeing the country, there will be Iraq's father said Saad. And the whole world and misery can not take refuge in Europe or the USA. The question would require a deeper debate. But the fact remains that this book makes you think and brings us back to the harsh realities of illegal immigration and the status of its non-actors and victims.
