Even if I had convinced the previous work, I am skeptical approached "Color and Light". After all, the objective involves the risk to lose either in abundance in dry and boring matter or theme so simplistic tackle that the reader takes along nothing from the book except work demonstrations. James Gurney has, however, managed in fact to avoid both pitfalls and to write a very informative and informed, yet stylistically loose text whose statements are demonstrated by Gurney's masterful oil paintings. The wealth of information you can record as well and implement in their own images.
As a collector of drawing and coloring books I have angry questions: Why is such a work, which now declares really extremely important and basic things, not yet occurred to me over the last 10 years zealous search? I am James Gurney profoundly grateful that he wrote this book, and this knowledge into a readable form could publish. The only downer for me: Although the physical principles can be of course in any realistic painting, including digital, applied (! And must), Gurney are in this book significant tips that targeted specifically at oil painter. While the literal wicking all available information in this book, I have this little corner perceived as non-oil painter than a bit disturbing - but only at first reading. "Color and Light" must in the library of every ambitious artist. I know of no comparable book.
