Some would believe that Devon Allman is the inheritor of the famous Allman Brothers Band, a combo that was at its peak there is a little over forty years. Nope. Even if he is the son of Greg Allman, it left his mother when he was a kid to live powdery white nights with Cher, Queen of cosmetic surgery. Result: the little guy has never really felt a "Allman" ... until he finally meets his dad in his late teens. At the time, he still stubbornly refused to play the blues and had never wanted to try the slide so that we do not assimilate to his deceased uncle Duane.
After much searching, have many tried more or less successfully, Devon - the forties - has come to accept his genetic makeup to play a bluesy rock, sometimes jazzy, funky often interspersed with fiery solos fed by a feeling old veteran.
After promising "Turquoise" last year - his second solo album Ragged & Dirty, is amazing maturity. No waste and a lot of moments of grace as I'll Be Around, a cover of the Spinners, soul like Steely Dan, with satin licks in every corner. And then, of course, there is the instrumental Midnight Lake Michigan, where the guitar bellows like a depressive alcoholic seeking a flophouse in a classic and classy blues.
So yes, everything has already been heard elsewhere. Sometimes better, often worse, but never quite like this. Because the artist has an engaging personality transpires from every note. He descends from a prestigious lineage, and it perpetuates a tradition that beautifully created many myths.
Devon Allman is beginning to make a name across the Atlantic and it is time that we realize that there are in France. He did not want the heir to the Allman Brothers, just a warm and talented bluesrocker, whom the gods gave the Blues the most beautiful electric guitar sounds of the XXI century.
