FINALLY! An endearing heroine, a rich history, interesting characters ... Everything you need for a great series!
Merit is a student in literature, one evening on campus she is attacked by a wild vampire who nearly kills and flees. To save the girl Ethan Sullivan, one of the most powerful vampires in the city transforms not she dies. Merit wakes up three days later in a limousine before removing the home and where he is told that she is a vampire!
Hard, Hard especially when you do not choose. Merit will try to find its place in the hierarchy of Chicago Vampires and especially for this first volume to accept as it is. Besides the vampire who attacked sows victims in its wake who have not had the chance to be saved and as intention to create a human vendetta against vampires in town. Merit and her new friends must stop it at all costs!
Merit is a very likeable character who does not let himself pushed around. The attraction she and Ethan feel for each other is electric. And what I liked is that there is no sex at all going in the book, just a voltage, a crazy attraction between two individuals who retain both. It frankly I missed that I am not a fan of sex every two pages. This novel is reminiscent of Patricia Briggs on that point.
The vampires of the system is very well explained. Vampires are known to all and are spread by Chicago house. Each is headed by a Vampire Master and all have a different mindset and a different picture. Chicago is very Vampires policy and its action reminds Buffy (also often cited in the book as a cultural reference)
Tip: PUT YOU READ MORE YOU will stop. I look forward to continue the adventures of Merit!
