More than 15 years I had liked "photos of an exhibition" with Leonard Bernstein. A year ago I purchased this Karajan recording. I began to compare these two "pictures". Untershied was huge! "Gnomus" can wirrklich startle the listener. "The Old Castle" is wet from the rain in the November night. Karajan was my master of Finale. The best thing is at the end - "The Great Gate of Kiev" is really enormous. Bernstein performs this part very schhnell and with joy. When Karajan there is no joy, but as the gate of Kiev sees off this is a huge building, but very cold. Karajan understood very well Russian soul, and it gets me 5 stars.
