The backstory here is the involvement of the Church in Bruce's information network. We are well acquainted with Janet Mar, Mary's sister the previous volume. Since the failed escape of his sister, Janet is hiding in a convent of the English border, and is in the name of Sister Genna, to carry out its duties as king mail. It was during one of them, the young woman finds herself in an awkward position, and that Ewen, aka the Hunter, came to his aid. The way back is a chance to get acquainted, but soon the end of their journey is there, and Ewen returned to the king. A few months later, he accidentally discovers the true identity of Genna sister, and is given a new mission by Bruce: Janet to bring back her safe and she can marry.
The first part of the story allows the two characters to meet. I enjoyed their first exchanges, the intensity that emerges from their relationship right from the start even though Janet does not know that Ewen under his identity nun. Although the passion one feels flush, even though he did everything to combat this unwelcome attraction to a member of the Church, but also the strong character of each.
Their relationship changes when Ewen diametrically discovers is actually Genna sister, and must carry out the new mission entrusted by Bruce. They must learn to trust and put aside a priori. More importantly, Ewen has to fight his attraction to the woman, even though he knows that nothing is possible between them.
Janet, who is far from being a fragile flower, does nothing to help him. It is a strong, determined heroine who knows what she wants, and that's loccurrence Ewen. Here she is the temptress, and Ewen prey!
Ewen himself is torn between his duty to the king, and his attraction to Janet. It's a strong man, the principles entrenched in it, and are a constant in his life. Therefore, Janet will shake his world: the desiring, he gets cantilever between his duty and what he really wants for the first time.
The historical context is still present and gives a true thickness to the plot. The troubles that pursue the bringing of the action, but also energize romance. They allow them to learn to trust, but also to really know.
It was therefore a very cute romance, where passion is perhaps not as present as in other volumes of the series, but so far, it feels good tension and attraction between them. However, this will mainly marked me, is this relationship of trust and equality that is built little by little between them, the tenderness that emerges. The hunter is a real success for me and the pen Monica McCarthy delicious!
