I bought and read the novel on Good Advice Site comments. And I have not regretted it! What struck me most in this first approach Henning Mankell is the realistic aspect of the life of the main character. Wallander, since it is from him that it has a life outside of work. He eats (badly), he sleeps (bad too), he is sick, he has relationships other than business (whatever ...) there are questions (existential as it should), etc ... As for the police investigation, it makes us go Sweden and takes us on all tracks, both good and bad. The pace is fast and steady, no length, no breaks and important details, distilled throughout the plot, hold the reader spellbound. Finally, subtle touches of strength, involved and creepy atmosphere of the investigation, the lassitude that seizes the police, become perceptible by the player. Good reading and good trip to Sweden.
