This recording made for the brand Marco Polo (subsidiary of "Rare music," Naxos) in 1994 and reappeared in 1996 in the Naxos Film Music Classic collection at a more affordable price; is a must for anyone with an interest in composition for film. This is to my knowledge the only recording of Georges Auric marketed partition to the work of Jean Cocteau 1946. A full 24 songs written for the film. For those who love this classic masterpiece of cinema, they meet again the charm of the original soundtrack of course with digital sound, but with respect for the original partition and above its original orchestration. Adriano perfectly heads the Moscow Symphony Orchestra is impeccable. The tempis and expressions are fair and extremely faithful to the original direction of Roger Desormières who assured the recording of the soundtrack. One notices the chorus, whose presence in most of the songs and provides the fantastic atmosphere of the compositions are slightly less present here than in more distant the original. I notice it especially in the range 22 (Diane's house); where transformation Rider, transformed into beast by the arrow fired by a statue of Diana, is punctuated by a series of strange harmonies agree with the vocals. This can however be due to taking his present more subtle than that of 1946 when we recorded the orchestra and chorus with one or two micro only. Anyway this is a great record that I recommend to movie lovers, Georges Auric, or just music!
