A woman in Victorian society

Miss Mackenzie (Paperback)

Customer Review

Portrait of a sweet and determined woman, social satire where humor has its share, Miss Mackenzie is a very engaging novel that immerses the reader in Victorian society whose social and amorous intrigue held in suspense until the last page as the eponymous heroine has everything an anti-heroine. This poor girl is almost a "sheep" who will be mowed by skilled and envious wolves, and yet ... It is also a very successful gallery of characters, from the pastor's wife at the London landlady widower ruined the venal pastor: men and women are of an impressive realism both by the fineness of their psychological portrait as their role adjusted to the millimeter in the plot mechanism.

The constants of the author interventions in the novel, his apostrophes to the reader give this story, dramatic in many ways, a tone of comedy and a welcome lightness.
