I was delighted to find these singers I had heard a lot there and enjoyed quite a year. I had not forgotten Barbieri who often recorded with Callas, I still had in mind the unforgettable voice of Boris Christoff, great interpreter of Boris Godunov, Philip II, Mephisto in Faust ... and it is great pleasure to find them in Amneris and Ramfis. The other three were just left to rot in my memory; they were, however, and rightly, pillars of the Met year 50/60. Leonard Warren, great baritone-verdi as there are hardly today. Beautiful tenor Jussi Bjoerling solar acute and portrays an exceptional Radames, totally different from Vickers, but also exciting. And then there Zinka! I love Zinka! a voice that unfolds endlessly, very beautiful, great style, nothing too much perhaps, but should we complain? And even if I prefer Leontyne Price, Zinka Milanov remains one of my favorite Aida. In short, singers like we do not find more like we did more and that's unfortunate. The orchestra and the head are probably not at the same level, but do not spoil our fun and rediscover these fabulous singers of the past that we have forgotten too quickly.
