the imaging performance is not on a very high level, between 35 - 55mm focal length but very tidy, if you have a little aperture range selected above f2.8.
the sharpness of the pictures is good to satisfactory, the autofocus actually pretty fail.
good results are obtained even in available light situations by consistently good light intensity.
However, if you are already spoiled by the imaging performance, the knack of sharpness and color brilliance of the fixed focal length:
EF 100mm / 2.8 / L / Macro / IS / USM,
or the zoom lens: EF 70-200mm 1: 4,0 / L / IS / USM,
then you have to find as high screwed claims that it is difficult to find anything comparable good.
despite everything, the EF 24-70mm / 2.8 / L / USM lens is a very good compromise for the lower range of focal lengths and to use it as it always good.
equipped with a new type of image stabilizers, it would still be considerably better off. :-)
In addition, there is no alternative as zoom for full frame cameras in this focal length range ...
... And to all cases, it is so much better than the 24-105mm with is.
Third-party (sigma + Tamron) cut all underperformed.
Conclusion: not bad buy if you do not have too high expectations.
