An acquired taste

The people who enthused about this album on the day of its release or shortly afterwards can only be Nena fans falling over Themselves To Promote Their idol Because, Although this album is wonderful, its an acquired taste Which you cant Possibly get on Day 1 Week 1 or even 1 Month In THEREFORE writing this review 2 years later: because, having not heard any of the music for a couple of months, I Played it at the weekend and what bowled by its brilliance.

When I first heard the album, only two of the tracks (Where is my home and peace) instantly appealed to me. My favorite songs tend to start to register as seeking after 3 or 4 hearings but the majority of you are good Took longer (5 to10 hearings); I hor me to even longer and I dont think Ill ever get into the title track. Take a song like Silent INITIALLY IT sounds like a formulaic, tedious acoustic guitar kiddies lullaby but once you get the tune in your head, then the way Nena meticulously and intimately enunciates its lyrics, whilst stretching beautiful here, haunting voice to sing the melody is Totally intoxicating.

I saw her in concert this summer (August 2014) and was a bit disappointed That She only did one track from the album, that's not all. The live version of what twice as good as the album version and so I was left wondering just how good it would be see and hear her perform some of my other favorites from the album, for instance, I have lost you Which Combines a natural musical crescendo with (for Nena) to uncharacteristically angry and lyric tone.

I cant pretend to be an expert on all Nenas material but in reasonably familiar with more than half of it and for me, this woman just gets better and better.
