Difficult to explain the fascination that this book inspires. This is probably due to the extraordinary emotional intelligence of John le Carré and his character George Smiley. They need only few details to understand the profound truth of the characters he meets, and we felt. There are many service meetings, dull characters, and yet everything is exciting and breathes intelligence. The way work complex organizations and people who work there is also remarkably described; as such, it is a reading anyone working to counsel in a large group.
