Jonas Kaufmann is a great artist because he knows how to use a special technique (which displeases some purists ...) at the service of remarkable intelligence of chant.Cela gives us a beautiful record, despite the functional orchestral support (even winded ...) of Runnicles and Deutschen Oper Berlin forces. The art of the interpreter is dazzling, especially in the return of Tannhäuser and Rome "in fernem Land" which he gives the full version; "ein Schwert" is still beautiful, though JK tries to "Wälse" almost as tense as those of Lauritz Melchior at the Met in 1940, which was not really necessary ... The beautiful prayer of Rienzi is taken in a tempo too slow (see Lorenz and Melchior). "Am stille Herd "us hope full of Meistersinger with another leader. And it's a good idea to have engraved the Wesendonck Lieder, which he gives a sensitive and restraint vision ("Im Treibhaus" Tristan gives us hope that he might become) .The scene Siegfried is sung with great musicality . We must recognize that Kaufmann finds its place among the great Wagnerian tenors, following a Peter Seiffert.Mais what regret that he has not recorded this recital with a leader like Abbado or Thielemann!
