Lento (CD)

Customer Review

There are discs that fascinate, that mark and leave a lasting impression as to become the magnet towards which we are invariably attracted. "Lento" is definitely one of them. In this fifth opus produced in France but especially after his fourth major respectively "So I am" that has emerged from the shadows and "Voyage" which propelled into the light and "Same girl" who made a star of jazz Voice contemporary Youm Sun Nah more than confirmed in this new album totally magical.

Each of the three aforementioned albums settled the beautiful Korean dividing his time between France where she lives most of the year and Korea where she joined her husband (director of the largest Seoul Jazz Festival) and his family regularly in an intimate and personal atmosphere. A climate due to minimalist music almost always accompanied by his sidekick, the great Swedish guitarist ULF WAKENIUS. A climate which highlighted the extraordinary vocal qualities are hers, a range that extends from the viola at almost shrill of sopranos.

Well sure we find those same qualities in "Lento" but with two major changes from its previous productions. First, Youm Sun Nah is loose, let the emotions flow freely and use his technique to focus that emotion that eventually rescue us genuine chills and tears of joy. And the instrumentation is enriched giving complex and shimmering harmonics, property enhancing the voice of the singer. In addition to Ulf friend (a very large current jazz guitarists), we find this wonder of the accordion jazz Peirani what Vincent, a young musician who also is exploding and itself as a highlight on the musical scenes. Bass singing and discreet Lars Danielsson and effective and musical percussion Xavier Desandre Navarre finish installing this musical aura that makes the uniqueness of this record.

All this allows the solo artist to go through multiple records, just the cascading Korean traditional singing accompanied by guitar Wakenius the western parody, the cry of love to the cry of revolt, gentleness to love the pain of waiting. We are captivated, caught in a maelstrom of which it becomes impossible to escape to our delight especially as the sound is at its peak of transparency and purity, like the melisma that transport us.

Rush on this masterpiece!
