Who would have thought that such a shrewd project like the Yeah Yeah Yeahs would actually prove endurance? All the more surprising that the second album of cute neo-punk combo from the States is not just a rehash of the consistently brilliant predecessor, but a real step in an unexpected direction. The rumbling drums are in any case still right where she left after Chase Fever To Tell. And Karen O.'s voice also spread still this special freaky coolnes as only they can produce them. Well, and Nick Zinner guitar playing has become again better. Razor-sharp riffs that immediately burn themselves into the ear and yet always remain varied. You have to imitate him first. All in all this time remains the previously often criticized cries of Miss O. (which I personally really always liked) sidelined. Instead, the lady sings now properly and nevertheless still absolutely Yeah Yeah Yeahs-like. The songs are structured and abwechlsungreicher than at Fever to Tell times and so involve some unexpected turn. There are so yet: an American Neo-Something chapel that has something to say for longer than just one season. And that will be a lasting stylistic influence. It will be interesting what has to offer still this in the future band.
