The band was for me always one of the last for the "real" Rock'n'Roll: welding, sound, honest. Especially represented by Dave and Taylor. Founded that time very timely mid-90 when the grunge scene died, Nu Metal not completely all knew how to inspire and the music industry was wiedermal in a self-discovery phase.
Album by Album knew how to inspire, the right mix between "AirPlay compatible" and still rocking, without losing its image was also awesome every time - yuppies, Freaks and metalheads, all could be Foo Fighters fans, all were served!
Unfortunately, it went in 2002 after One by One with the musicality of the band down. Already knew this album not to be completely satisfactory, always came back parts heavier catchy albums that just - sorry - "boring" were and could not burn the brain even after frequent hearing. Notable exception, of course, "Best of You", one of the best songs and somehow not quite in this rather uninspired time the band fit. "Uninspired" of course only my subjective fan perspective, which was simply a fan of the first hour. Development is always good, but to me this chosen direction was far too quiet, rippling, WHATEVER. Possibly because Grohl rock excessively anyway could romp with Probot, TCV and various other projects.
Some call then "Wasting Light" of 2011 as the best album. Although it is actually very rocking again not fired at me at once. Perhaps because I like the Foo Fighters as already "well, are there, but always play the old stuff because everyone likes" stamped band ala Metallica or Maiden had ..? In any case it would have been much too early, because now came the ray of hope, the new initial spark in me, therefore!
"Sonic Highways" has caught me namely as my favorite albums to do that (need): first an "aha". "MHM". And hear each time to put the tunes that force, just the rock'n'roll deeper and deeper in the head firmly, until you actually need his daily dose "Sonic".
Especially "Something from nothing", opener and single is the best example: but rather midtempo moderate it increases gradually to a totally horny rock number, with probably only the deaf can not mitbangen / want.
Number to number, it goes like this then - on first hearing almost unspectacular but with each subsequent time a small tesserae more of the whole picture in the brain, which is establishing itself slowly. And this remains then longer, much longer than an album in memory, which captivates immediately, but then burns out quickly. Although I'm not sure to what extent this example on "Wasting Light" is true, because I'm still working on it as it is written :-) Kam somehow (only for me personally) at the wrong time. But was definitely a step out of the idling back into old riding waters of the Band!
For me personally the new album is a bit too short, should get along as a single plate for holding the (now ordered is) LP, is indeed not so often the case nowadays :-) Certainly 8 Super songs better than 14 bad as Flo already written has. Nevertheless, the golden mean would have been nicer, 10 or 11 numbers hättens may already :-)
Anyway, an absolute top-publication of a tape in which is just nice that it they and their like today still!
